Nobles Tombs - Qubbet el Hawa
The West Bank at Aswan is dominated by
a huge hill topped by an Islamic dome - Qubbet el-Hawa (The Dome
of the Winds). The hill itself is honeycombed with dozens of tombs
dating to the Old, Middle and New Kingdom Periods. It's time to
sail across the Nile and explore our first tombs in Egypt! Mike
has undertaken extensive work at this site over many years and
published some of the monuments here, so let him guide you through
the maze of ancient burials and explain the Egyptians' views on
life and death. Tombs at Qubbet el-Hawa we hope to visit include
those of: Mekhu, Sabni, and Harkhuf (Old Kingdom); the tomb-chapel
of Pepinakht-Heqaib, and Sarenput I & II (Middle Kingdom).
