The Unfinished Obelisk

We travel a short distance from our hotel to the granite quarries which made Aswan famous in ancient times - indeed many of the major statues and architectural elements we shall see later in Luxor and Cairo came from here. Mike will explain the ancient quarrying methods to you and we will have time to wander around the so-called Unfinished Obelisk - a New Kingdom 'skyscraper' that would have been 42 m. high and stood in Karnak Temple if it had not broken while being cut.
