The Imhotep Museum, Saqqarah

Opened in April 2006, the Imhotep Museum is named after Djoser's chief architect. At the museum's entrance a fragmentary statue of Djoser records the king's name and that of Imhotep. Imhotep was worshipped as a demi-god in the Greaco-Roman period. His titles included:

Chancellor of the King of Lower Egypt, Doctor, First after the King of Upper Egypt, Administrator of the Great Palace, Hereditary nobleman, High Priest of Heliopolis, Builder, Chief Carpenter, Chief Sculptor and Maker of Vases in Chief.

The Museum boasts a Visitors' Centre and five large halls housing masterpieces of Egyptian art and architecture from the Saqqarah area. Displayed items include: the 'famine-relief' stela from the Unas Causeway; funerary items from Djoser's step pyramid; Old Kingdom wooden statues; and recently discovered New Kingdom statues.
